Scottsdale, Arizona Voted the most livable city.
Welcome to Destination Scottsdale.
Your insider’s guide for discovering and exploring the most beautiful city in Arizona.
Scottsdale, Arizona is a vibrant city nestled in one of the most unique settings in the world, the captivating Sonoran Desert.
It's a place where lively civilization and dramatic landscape meet. Rich in history, adventure, beauty, tranquility, new friends and bright blue skies... It's an unforgettable destination that many fall in love with instantly.
Like me...
My own love affair started more than a decade ago (and counting...), when my family relocated to the valley permanently.
Young, bright-eyed and ready for adventure, I scoured the city. From sandy washes to the highest peak of Camelback Mountain.
The famed Camelback Mountain.
Can you spot the Praying Monk?
What I've discovered is that some of the most charming things about this place, are those you cannot find at a tourist stand.
That's why I've created this guide. And that's why it covers a lot more than the usual tourist attractions. (Although I mention those too.)
I want to show you Scottsdale through the eyes of a local, and help you discover some special things you might otherwise miss.
A Place Like No Other...
Some people call it the Beverly Hills of the desert.
I like to say it like this. If you could imagine that Beverly Hills and the Wild West had a baby, plopped it down in a beautiful desert, and surrounded it by ancient Native American ruins...you'd have Scottsdale.
It's this eclectic mix of historical and modern, contemporary and chic, ruggedness and elegance that make up the essence of what this city is.
It's where cowboy beans and caviar collide. Where rusty spurs meet shiny stilettos. And dramatic rock formations mingle with glitzy storefronts.
Where you can hike and explore and chase adventure during the day. Then wash off the dust and sweat, and dine and dance like a diva by night.
It's where saguaros reach towards purple and magenta sunsets. And golf courses cover the desert in blankets of emerald.
Scottsdale is complex, yet serene. It's as down-to-earth as it is glamorous.
The Thrill Is in the Discovery
I call Scottsdale the Sea of Plenty. While there is no ocean here (about the only downside), there is plenty to see and do.
But sometimes, too much can be more challenging than not enough. (I've seen the deer-in-the-headlights look a few times...)
That's where I come in.
Consider me like the friend who can give you the inside scoop on the good, the bad, the ugly. What's worth seeing and what's not.
That's because I've spent my entire twenties (and now early 30's....) doing my homework.
I discovered that with a little advice and a bit of research under your belt, you can make your time here sizzle like the Sonoran sun.
And it's my pleasure to help you do just that.
Okay...enough chatter! Let's begin our journey...
