Firesky Resort :
The Former Caleo Resort & Spa

When summer rolls around, the crowds leave and resort rates drop to an all time low.
Firesky Resort
We locals love to take advantage of this.  My friends and I have a few resorts we like to hit during the off-season... But the Firesky Resort is at the top of my list.   Why?  Because...

I love the location.

It's in walking distance from Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall.  And of course, the rest of Old Town.  Fantastic restaurants, nightlife and all.

I love the ambiance.

The Firesky has it's own flare that I dig.  Think tropical oasis with a Mediterranean twist.

And it's one of the best deals in town.

The Firesky Resort and Spa is classed as a 4-star Scottsdale resort.  Yet the attentive staff and well-appointed property often makes it feel like one of the 5-star Scottsdale resorts.  So you get more bang for your buck here.  And I like that.

Size Does Matter

Scottsdale luxury hotels
With 204 rooms, separated into five small buildings, this accommodation does the relaxed luxury vibe really well.

Its moderate size makes everything feel so accessible.  So easy to find.  Easy to get to.

No big buildings to contend with.  No long hallways, leading from one wing to the next.

So you get less of that hotel-y feel you find at some larger Scottsdale resorts, more of that quaint, easy-going feel.

A walk out of your hotel room puts you smack dab in the middle of lush gardens.  And you're just a short walk away from the lobby, lounge and pool areas.

It's an intimate setting that is really quite charming.

Lobby & Lounge

The Firesky Resort is an escape from the typical Arizona vibe.  The muted desert palette has been traded for bright pops of color and distinctive features.  Making you feel as though you've stepped into an exotic bungalow.

Walking into the lobby of the Firesky instantly awakens a sense of curiosity... The decor offering a cool twist on "classy".

Illuminated deer heads?  Sure, why not.  They fit right into the unique elements found here.

Scottsdale Resorts

Elegant, feather-lite draperies soften hard corners, drawing the eye towards beautiful wood-beamed ceilings.

Plush leather chairs sit against contemporary couches and seating areas scattered throughout the expansive lobby.  The balance of warm taupes and cool purples, ooze the ever-apparent Earth, Water, Fire motif at this resort.

Just inside the main entrance.

At the front door sits a water bowl and dog bed.  Why?  Because the Firesky Resort happens to be one of the most pet friendly resorts in Scottsdale

Upon request, guests can stay in pet-friendly rooms, outfitted with doggie beds and food and water bowls.  They even offer dog-sitting and dog-walking services.

Past registration, are funky chandeliers and more tables and comfortable seating areas.

Rugs that look like dancing flames rest against granite floors.  And if you follow them past the Taggia Bar, you will run right into my favorite part of the resort.

The Lagoon & Tropical Gardens

The Firesky Resort is shaped like a rectangle.  Guest suites flank the sides and the rear, leaving the interior of the property open to a tropical oasis.

It's an oasis brimming with swaying palm trees, providing a lush canopy.

Purple and red bougainvillea climb rock walls, framing waterfalls and fountained courtyards.  Manicured lawns are framed by gardens bursting with color.

My over-exposed picture of the lagoon.  New one to come soon.
Firesky Resort Lagoon

It's a setting that instantly breathes peace into the soul.  Helping you leave the hustle and bustle behind.

Just one of the many intimate seating areas.

Just outside the lobby doors, is the comfortable outdoor lounge area.  It's my favorite spot to enjoy breakfast, and the fantastic complimentary coffee served every morning.

It's very relaxing with the sound of trickling fountains in the background.  The light breeze rustling through palm fronds.  And birds singing as they flit from one tree to the next.

Firesky Resort Bar

Of course, past the lounge area, are more comfy seating areas.  A recessed fire pit is nestled into the lagoon area, offering a neat retreat in the evening.

When 5 o'clock rolls around, my friends and I head to the bar for Complimentary Wine Hour.  We grab our glass - pinot for me, chardonnay for them - and head down to the fire pit.

Main Pool & Sandy Beach

There are two pools at the Firesky Resort.  Both are located in the center of the property, among the lagoon and vibrant gardens.

Scottsdale Resort Pools

Firesky Resort PoolThe main pool is surrounded by tons of cushioned lounge chairs.  Behind stone pillars rests a spa big enough to fit my entire extended family...almost.

An outdoor bar sits in the corner, making it a short walk to get your mimosa, martini or whatever cocktail you desire.

There are also servers on the weekends who are happy to do the walking for you.

Plenty of towels are located at the help yourself towel rack.

Next to the main pool is the Sandy Beach Pool.

It's a bit smaller, but offers a slightly less crowded space if you prefer it.  If there are children at the Firesky, I usually see them playing at Sandy Beach.

Separating the two pool areas is yet another place to relax... Although this one tends to get more shade if you need a break from the sun.

There are also a few private cabanas, offering more shade at the main pool.

Spa & Fitness

Firesky Fitness CenterThe Firesky Resort has an excellent fitness facility, outfitted with the latest and greatest equipment.

Guests who like to maintain their physique while traveling, won't have any trouble finding what they need here.

There is even a healthy in-room food service menu, which I love.

The Jurlique Spa at the Firesky Resort is small, but offers a fantastic menu of treatments.  Combining East and West elements, and organic products made from a private herb farm in Australia.

Taggia Restaurant

Okay.  So I love staying at the Firesky Resort.  I love the rooms.  The service is fantastic.  The staff are friendly and always extremely helpful.

My only less favorable review is on Taggia.  While I love their breakfast, I'm not as fond of the dinner menu.

At $25-plus for an entree, I suppose I expect a little more.  Although, I know there are others who enjoy the Italian fare at Taggia.  The restaurant is upscale, with classy decor.  It may be worth it to check out the menu for yourself.

Or, there are plenty of excellent Scottsdale restaurants less than a mile away.

Accommodations

The rooms at the Firesky Resort are just as delightful as the gardens that surround them.  They're modern, elegant and clean.

Accommodations range from standard rooms, to deluxe patio suites and one presidential suite.

All guestrooms come with a set of French doors, opening to a spacious balcony or patio - My favorite detail of the rooms.

Standard rooms are located on the exterior of the property, with a view of the street or parking lot.  They're still very nice, but the best views are located on the interior rooms, facing the pool or lagoon.

Interior facing rooms are only about $30 more per night.  Well worth the cost in my opinion.

All rooms are spacious, even standard rooms.

Firesky Guestroom Bathroom
I love the leather chaise, looking out into the gardens.  And often I set up my laptop at the desk, so I can surf the web... Or check the latest showtimes at The Comedy Spot.

The beds are super comfortable, with crisp linens and pillows both soft and firm.

Bathrooms have a separate sink and vanity area.  Which is nice.  While someone is in the shower, you can do your makeup without feeling like you're in a sauna.

Speaking of, the showers have excellent water pressure... A feature that matters to us girls with long hair.

Fresky Room Amenities

Other cool details include plush robes, and "Tall Rooms" upon request.

For those who are vertically gifted, the Firesky Resort offers rooms with extra long beds and adjustable shower head.

I come from an exceptionally tall family.  Mom is 6', Dad is 6'4".  So this is a pretty cool "above and beyond" detail.

Bringing your little ones with you?

The Firesky Resort also offers baby-proofing.  Upon request child safety kits are provided, including outlet covers, toilet latches and nightlights.  They'll even roll in a crib if you need one.  And don't forget to ask for the mini-animal print robes for your kiddos.

Exploring Old Town Scottsdale

When you're ready to lock up that hotel room and head out for a little fun in Old Town, there are a few ways you can get there.  You can walk.  Or,

Take the free shuttle service in the Firesky Resort Escalade.

The shuttle will take you anywhere within a 3-mile radius.  And there is plenty to see within a short distance.  Shopping, dining, dancing, entertainment.  You name it

Finding the Best Deal

Here's another little secret.  The Firesky Resort always guarantees the best rate.

So if you're shopping Hotwire or Travelocity and find a rate that's lower, contact the Firesky Resort In-House Reservations, and they will honor it.

It's much easier to book direct with hotel, as they only require a credit card to place a hold on the room.  So it makes cancelling or reservation changes easy breezy.

Firesky Resort and Spa

The Firesky Resort and Spa is perfect when relaxation is the main agenda.  While this Scottsdale resort is lite on activities - no golf or tennis here - It's location to Old Town makes up for it.

Looking for something more secluded than the Firesky Resort?  Head back to the Scottsdale resorts main page, and check out some of the North Scottsdale resorts.

Otherwise, enjoy your luxury Mediterranean dream in desert paradise.
